When you hear the phrase simple living or the simple things in life, what’s the first thing to come to mind? I think for most people, it’s a feeling: the afternoon sun on your skin, a mug of coffee resting gently between your palms, the eager anticipation of starting a new book or having a massage? We crave time and space to enjoy the simple things in life.
Unfortunately, these little pleasures often feel just out of reach. Despite our best intentions, we’re consumed by busy schedules and cluttered minds. Days turn into weeks and it’s easy to feel like life is just passing by. Below are some simple tips on how to refresh and make time and space for the simple things to come into your life and to change habits.
- Understand what the simple things are for you- write a physical list
- Learn to be present
- Take note of natural beauty
- Do or try something new; a new recipe, a new activity, a new podcast
- Plan; extensive to do lists are great
- Have fun; find that inner child
- Ask for help; ask a friend to look after the kids for an hour, drop them off to grandparents or take turns with your partner. ‘Make this a priority’
- Indulge from time to time
- Do reflective practise; goal setting and thinking about your short, medium and long term goals is important
- Manifest; picture what is that you want, talk about it
